@TAMUKVBALL Sends the Pioneers Down the Trail, 3-1

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Volleyball) – Coach Tanya Allen and the Texas A&M University- Kingsville Javelinas defeated the Pioneers of Texas Woman's University, 3-1, on Saturday evening on the Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. The Javelinas won the match with set scores of 25-22, 25-17, 16-25, and 25-16.

The Javelinas move to 10-4, 3-3 (LSC) for the season and the Pioneers are now 8-6, 4-2 (LSC).

Kingsville battled with TWU to take the first set. The team started the first set with four unanswered points before the Pioneers began a rally of their own. With the score tied at 14-14, the Javelinas got back on track to finish the set.

In the second set,  the Hoggies came out blazing and raced past the Pioneers. At a score of 3-3, Krystal Faison scored a kill off an assist from Casey Klobedans to start an offensive juggernaut. The team would run away with the set at the score of 10-6 after Kelsey Washington pounded the ball over net for a kill with the assist going to Klobedans.

The Pioneers collected themselves to swiped an error-riddled set three from the Javelinas. Kingsville tried to come out of the slump at a score of 11-19 as Faison got a kill from another Klobedans assist. TWU overpowered the Hoggies with 13 kills and a .214 hitting percentage.

In the fourth set, Allen and company rallied together and came up with huge play when it counted. When the score was 7-3, Ashley Bukowski slammed the assist from Klobedans for a kill and started a scoring run that would take the Javelinas to victory. The set ended with a service ace from Klobedans.

Faison led the Hoggies with 15 kills. She and Brett Zaccardo tied for most digs in the match with 22. Klobedans led the Javelinas with 53 assists while Ashley Tipps had the most blocks with five.

Kingsville finished the day with 58 killls, 57 assists, 86 digs, and 10 total team blocks.

Jacqueline Santos led the Pioneers with 16 kills and five blocks. Joey Redwine had 35 kills for the day. Defensively, Morgan Wilson led TWU in digs with 15.

The Javelinas will be on the road next week as the team heads to Lawton, Okla. to face the Aggies of Cameron at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3.
