@TAMUKVBALL tame the Lions in Straight Sets

The Javelinas move to 9-4, 2-3 (LSC) and the Lions move to 3-11, 1-4 (LSC) on the season.

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Volleyball) – The Texas A&M University-Kingsville (9-4) swept Texas A&M University-Commerce (3-11) in three sets on Friday night on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. The Javelinas won the match with set scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-20.

The Javelinas won the first set decisively by striking hard and fast against the Lions. At the score of 10-6, Ashley Bukowski scored a kill off an assist from Casey Klobedans that kick started Kingsville's scoring rally. The team also capitalized on the mistakes that were being made by A&M-Commerce to take the set.

During the second set, the Lions fought back and attempted take the set from the Hoggies. A&M-Commerce traded points with the Javelinas up until the tie of 23-23. The Lions committed an error and Stephanie Johns scored the last kill for Kingsville to take the set.

The final set started with the Hoggies jumping out to a 10-6 run after a Kelsey Washington kill off an assist from Klobedans. The Lions would not recover from their mistakes in the set and the Javelinas would win the third set.

Washington led the night with 13 kills followed by Bukowski with 11 and Johns with 10. Klobedans finished the match with 41 assists. Defensively, Brett Zaccardo had 19 digs. Johns and Washington each had four blocks for the night. Johns finished with the highest hitting percentage of the night, .615.

As a team, the Hoggies had 47 kills, a hitting percentage of .282, 47 digs and 8 total team blocks.

Amy Devault led A&M-Commerce with 10 kills and nine digs. Courtney Tate finished the night with 22 assists.

The Javelinas will continue play at home on Kingsville Hampton Inn as they face Texas Woman's University on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m.
