SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball was held to 17 points in the first half Saturday afternoon and couldn't recover falling 63-47 to Angelo State at the Junell Center.
The Javelinas fall to 2-6 in the Lone Star Conference and 7-11 overall. Angelo improves to 11-8 and 5-4 in the league.
In the first half, the Javelinas could not find their shot. They hit just 18.5% from the floor while ASU hit 50% of its attempts from the field. The hosts led by as many as 22 points in the first half before leading 37-17 at the break.
While they outshot Angelo in the second half, the Javelinas could not get closer than 15 points early in the second half.
The Javelinas, who played without Ashley Viera who is second on the team in scoring, were led by Lauren Jay with 10 points. Lindsey Mahone, who played with the Rambelles early in her career, had nine points and a team-best six boards. Mahone had three steals.
ASU was led by Tatiana Haynes with 16 points. She was joined in double digits by Karli Kellermeier and Rochelle Norris with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Kellermeier had a double-double with 11 rebounds.
Kingsville next heads to Eastern New Mexico on Wednesday before returning home on Feb. 8 to face West Texas A&M.
