@JavelinaFB Begins Inaugural LSC Playoff Game at Blackwater Draw

Javelinas kick off at 7 p.m. CT

BLACKWATER DRAW, N.M. (Football) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1-8) looks to avenge its loss to Eastern New Mexico University (5-4) earlier this season in the inaugural Lone Star Conference playoff game on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at Greyhound Stadium.

The eighth-seeded Javelinas are 23-6 all-time against the No. 5 Greyhounds and 9-5 when visiting New Mexico. On Oct. 4, ENMU blanked Texas A&M-Kingsville, 31-0, to earn its first ever win at Javelina Stadium.

The Javelinas received great news on Thursday afternoon as graduate student defensive back Trevor Pesek was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Four team, one of three LSC student-athletes to earn the honor.

Last Time Out
The Javelinas gave its home crowd at the historic Javelina Stadium something to be proud of in the first half, taking a 7-3 lead on a Shawn Vasquez touchdown run early in the second quarter. However, the second half continued to be problematic as Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1-8, 0-7 LSC) was held scoreless in the final 30 minutes and fell to Midwestern State University (6-2, 5-2 LSC), 48-7.

Eastern New Mexico defeated West Texas A&M University, 31-21, behind E'lon Spight's 161 rushing yards. In the shutout win over the Hogs, ENMU handed the Javelinas its first shutout since Sept. 22, 1984.

Inside the Record
"We need to compete for all 60 minutes," said interim head coach Jaime Martinez. "We know it will be a physical game, but the guys are excited about the opportunity to keep on playing. We are looking to improve and control the ball. We need to create turnovers defensively, and limit our miscues."

The winner will advance to play for fifth-place against the winner of the No. 6/No. 7 matchup between West Texas A&M and McMurry University on Nov. 15, with the losers of both games playing for seventh place on the same date.
