STEPHENVILLE, Texas (Men's Basketball) – The month of November closes on a sour note for Texas A&M University-Kingsville (3-3) as the Javelinas split the Tarleton State University Thanksgiving Classic after falling to Pittsburg State University (2-4), 95-83, on Saturday evening at Wisdom Gym.
The Gorillas shot 66 percent from the field and opened the second half on a 17-6 run, forcing three TAMUK turnovers and taking a 15-point lead with 16:19 remaining in the game.
Troy Jones led all Hoggies with 17 points on a perfect 7-of-7 shooting night and the newcomer added eight rebounds, two steals and one block.
Jamar Goodwin and
DJ Weathers reached double figures with 15 and 11, respectively, and Weathers and
Jordan Jahr ended the night with three steals apiece.
Four Gorilla players scored in double figures, led by Josiah Gustafson's 23 points, 21 coming in the second half.
Despite going 15-of-24 in the opening frame, Pittsburg State entered halftime with a slim 37-33 advantage. Jones provided much of the scoring punch for the Javelinas in the first, finishing the half with 11 points and five rebounds.
With the loss, the Javelinas have now alternated wins and losses in every game this season.
A five-game road trip to end the 2014 calendar year begins on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at St. Mary's University. The Hogs defeated the Rattlers, 76-71, on Nov. 19.
