Hoggies Take Early Lead but Belles Put Out Flames on Quick Start, Earn Season Sweep

Javelinas begin its first of four games in five days on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Volleyball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (14-10, 5-7 LSC) posted 20 kills and 21 digs, led by Krystal Faison's nine kills (.600 attack percentage) and six digs, to earn a first set win, 30-28, but after Angelo State University (16-5, 9-4 LSC) squeaked past the Hogs in set two, 25-23, the Rambelles clinched the season sweep with a 25-9 win in set three and 25-19 victory in the fourth set on Saturday afternoon at the Gil H. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
 
Faison and Kelsey Washington registered double-doubles, finishing with 16 kills and 19 digs and 14 kills and 18 digs, respectively. Stephanie Johns finished with 14 kills, five blocks and hit .357, Faison posted a .310 attack percentage, and Casey Klobedans recorded 45 assists and two blocks.
 
TAMUK and ASU played a highly contested first set, with the set featuring eight ties. Tied at 28-all, a bad set followed by a kill by Washington gave the Hogs the edge, 30-28. The Belles responded by storming to a 19-15 lead, but back-to-back kills by Washington cut Angelo State's lead to 22-20. The run continued for the Javelinas after an ace and a kill by Klobedans tied the contest at 22, but ASU recorded three of the sets final four points to clinch the second set, 25-23. The Rambelles carried its momentum into the third set and defeated Kingsville, 25-9, in the set and 25-19 in set four to earn its ninth Lone Star Conference victory of the season.
 
The Javelinas begin a busy week (four games in five days) on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. against Texas A&M International University.
