CANYON, Texas (Volleyball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (13-8, 5-5 LSC) looked poised to upset the Lone Star Conference leading West Texas A&M University Lady Buffs (20-3, 11-0 LSC) but WTAMU was able to close the match with a 25-20, 26-24, 27-25 victory on Saturday afternoon at the WTAMU Fieldhouse.

Down 18-13, the Javelinas scored three unanswered points in the opening set to cut their deficit to two, before the Lady Buffs clinched the opening set, 25-20. TAMUK came out to a 16-9 lead in set two, but following a timeout by West Texas, WT was able to tie the game at 22-22. Trading points back and forth, the Javelinas were down 24-23 as the Lady Buffs looked to take a 2-0 lead in the match. However, Kelsey Washington's kill off the assist from Casey Klobedans tied the contest at 24-24 before WT clinched the 2-0 edge with back-to-back points.

A close third set saw the comeback hopes fall just short as the Hogs rallied from being down 24-21 to tie the set at 24-24 on two kills by Washington and an attack error on WT. The Lady Buffs improved to 11-0 in conference play and 20-3 overall after two unanswered points to take the third set and match, 27-25.

Washington finished with 15 kills and three blocks, Ashley Tipps added three blocks and Klobedans recorded 36 assists and three blocks.

The Javelinas conclude their road trip at St. Mary's University on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
