KINGSVILLE, Texas -- The Texas A&M-Kingsville football team returns to Javelina Stadium Saturday night to face Lone Star Conference leader Tarleton State at 7 p.m. on Kingsville Community Appreciation Night sponsored by Hertz.
The Javelinas are 2-5 on the year after beginning the season 2-0 and are coming off a tough 13-10 loss to Eastern New Mexico at Blackwater Draw. Kingsville leads the all-time series with Tarleton 20-6, but the teams have split the past two meetings.
Tarleton State opened the season 5-0 with wins over perennial powers West Texas A&M and Midwestern State. However, the Texans have lost their last two games by a combined four points. They lost 38-36 to Delta State and 22-20 to A&M-Commerce this past weekend.
The Javelinas will be welcoming back four teams from its gridiron past that won Lone Star Conference Championships and are celebrating anniversaries of those titles this season. The 1968, 1993, 1998 and 2003 teams will be recognized as honorary captains at the start of the game and participate in the coin flip.
The 1988 team was recognized early this season in Arlington at AT&T Stadium as they celebrated their 25
th anniversary of the winning the conference.
A social will be held Friday night in their honor of the returning teams.
The Javelinas will also be saying thanks to the community for their support and will also be accepting donations for Toys for Tots. Any fan who brings a new, unwrapped toy will be provided with one general admission ticket to the game.
