
KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville football team had three players named to the Beyond College Sports Network 2012 Preseason Division II Football All-America Team on Monday.
The Javelina trio consists of two offensive players and one defensive player. Senior linebacker Jeremy Aguilar (Los Angeles, CA/Roosevelt HS) was named to third team while junior wide receiver Robert Armstrong (Cuero/Cuero HS) and senior running back Jonathan Woodson (Missouri City/Marshall HS) were named honorable mention.
Aguilar was the Lone Star Conference Linebacker of the Year in 2011 while being named to three All-America teams; Second Team Daktronics, Honorable Mention Don Hansen’s Football Gazette and Honorable Mention D2Football.com. He led the Javelinas with 91 tackles last year while making 14.0 tackles for loss, 3.5 quarterback sacks and 11 quarterback hurries.
Armstrong was tabbed First Team all-LSC in 2011 after earning honorable mention all-conference honors as a freshman. He was one of the most productive receivers in the conference a year ago and had his season cut short one play into the ninth game of the season. He finished 2011 with 51 catches for 626 yards and eight touchdowns and scored 10 total touchdowns. As a freshman, he tallied 45 catches for 590 yards and six touchdowns. He is on pace to become only the second player in school history with at least 200 career receptions and has a chance to break to the school record of 30 career receiving touchdowns.
Woodson is one of the most decorated Javelina athletes in school history with a total of nine first team All-America awards in football and track. He earned First Team AP Little All-America and First Team Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-America honors in 2011 as an all-purpose player after leading the nation with 209.9 all-purpose yards per game. He was named Second Team Daktronics All-America and Honorable Mention D2Football.com All-America as a junior after going over 200 all-purpose yards in six games and over 300 all-purpose yards in two games. He heads into his senior season with 17 consecutive games with at least 100 all-purpose yards. He earned First Team all-LSC honors as both a running back and kick returner in 2011 after being named a second team running back and honorable mention kick returner in 2010. He holds the school record for most kick returns in a season and career and most kick return yards in a season and career. He is fifth all-time in school history with 4,200 career all-purpose yards and had 2,309 all-purpose yards in 2011, the third best total ever. He is on pace to become the first player in school history with over 2,000 career rushing yards, 1,000 career receiving yards and 2,000 career kick return yards. Additionally, he has earned seven track & field All-America citations, including an indoor 200-meter dash national championship in 2012.
The Javelina football program has a long history of success including seven national championships, 34 conference championships and 69 winning seasons out of 83 played.
