Softball Shutout by TexAnns

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – For the second straight day, Tarleton State pitcher Samantha Swanda shutout the Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team, 5-0 at Hubert Field on Saturday afternoon.

Swanda scattered five hits without allowing a walk while striking out four to improve to 11-2 on the season. She did not allow a Javelina (9-15, 0-6) base runner past second base the entire game.

The TexAnns (20-7, 6-0) took a lead in the top half of the first inning and never looked back. Swanda helped out her own cause with a two-out, run-scoring single in the inning. Alexandria Orf scored her second run of the game in the third inning on a two-out single by Bailey Mauldin.

The TexAnns put the game away in the top of the sixth inning. Mauldin singled to lead off the inning and then Kelsey Latta walked. Abigail Tammen followed with a two-run triple and came in to score on McKaylee Pittman’s single.

Kaylee Villanueva (Corpus Christi/Moody HS) led the Javelina offense with a pair of singles while Kodie Garner (Garland/Garland HS) had a double in the game. Lindsey Brown (Spring/Spring HS) was tagged with the loss in the circle after allowing five runs in five innings. Denise Arnold (Katy/Katy HS) pitched two shutout innings of relief to close out the game.

The Javelinas are back in action on Tuesday at home against Ohio Dominican. They will play a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
