KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – For the second day in a row, the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team shut down the vaunted Central Oklahoma offense. Senior Adam Aspaas (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills HS) tossed a 6-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory for the Javelinas.
Aspaas did his best imitation of teammate Jaden Dillon (Bridge City/Bridge City HS) who struck out 13 and only allowed one unearned run in Thursday’s win. Aspaas scattered six hits without allowing a walk while striking out a career-high 10 en route to his first career complete game and shutout. He improved to 2-0 on the season and lowered his earned run average to 0.42. He has yet to allow a walk in 21.1 innings this year.
The Javelinas (7-2) only managed seven hits and two runs off Broncho (8-5) starter Edgar Lopez. Lopez pitched a complete game allowing two runs and two walks while striking out seven and fell to 3-1 on the year.
The Javelina offense scored just enough runs to get the win. Jake Mendiola (Kingsville/Northeast Richland Hills HS) had a big night at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double. The Hogs scored in the bottom of the second when
James Wallace (Corpus Christi/Tuloso-Midway HS) came through with a two-out RBI double. They tacked on an insurance run in the seventh inning when Mario Siller’s (San Antonio/MacArthur HS) ground ball scored James Black (Spring/Klein Collins HS).
Keegan Morrow and Kevin Blue each had two singles for the Bronchos.
The game was played in 1:48 and is the second straight game played under two hours. The two teams square off for the final game of the series on Saturday at 1 p.m.
