KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – The Central Oklahoma baseball team entered Thursday night’s game at Texas A&M-Kingsville hitting .362 on the season, but that did not faze Javelina starting pitcher Jaden Dillon (Bridge City/Bridge City HS) as he mowed down the visitors in a 3-1 win at Nolan Ryan Field.
Dillon gave up only a bunt single and two walks through the first seven innings of the game and he retired 12 consecutive batters at one point. He struck out a career high 13 batters in 8.0 innings. He did not allow a run until the top of the eighth when the Bronchos (8-4) used a pair of infield hits and an error to plate their only run of the night.
The Javelinas (6-2) got on the board early in the game. Joe Tallerine (Industrial/Bellville HS) led off the bottom of the first with a single and advanced to second on a stolen base. He moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Brian Frazier’s (Kingwood/Kingwood HS) ground out.
That was all the offense the Javelinas would manage off UCO starting pitcher Uriah Fisher, an Oklahoma State transfer. Fisher went 6.0 innings allowing two hits and one walk while striking out seven in a no-decision.
After the Bronchos tied the game 1-1 in the top of the eighth, the Javelinas responded in the bottom half of the inning.
James Wallace (Corpus Christi/Tuloso-Midway HS) led off with a single and was pinch-run for with Dustin Aguilar (San Antonio/Churchill HS). A sacrifice bunt moved Aguilar to second and then Julian Duran (San Antonio/Madison HS) came through with the game-winning single. Duran would later score on a sacrifice fly by Ben Villafuerte (Corpus Christi/Carroll HS).
Cameron Dullnig (San Antonio/Clark HS) came on to close out the game and quickly retired the Bronchos on two strikeouts and a ground out to earn his second save of the season. Dillon improves to 2-0 on the year with a 1.40 earned run average.
The two teams will meet up again on Friday night at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
