KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team picked up a 3-0 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma on Friday afternoon behind a strong pitching performance by Lindsey Brown (Spring/Spring HS) at Hubert Field.
The Javelinas (4-1) and Savage Storm (1-2) were playing a scoreless tie until the bottom of the fourth inning. The Hoggies got on the board first thanks to a two-out running scoring double by Kaylee Villanueva (Corpus Christi/Moody HS). Ali Bodnar (Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley HS) scored the second run of the inning on a throwing error by the catcher. The Javs would tack on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Yvette Berlanga (San Antonio/O’Connor HS).
The Storm nearly scored in the third inning when they had runners on second and third with no outs, but Brown retired the next three hitters without allowing a run. They were able to get runners in scoring position in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but could not score.
Brown improved to 4-0 on the season by tossing her second shutout of the year. She allowed five hits and one walk while striking out four. Villanueva had two doubles and Amber Cherry (Splendora/Splendora HS) went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base.
Jacee Bennett was tagged with the loss after pitching 4.0 innings while allowing five hits, one earned run and one walk. Paige Priest led the offense with two hits and a walk.
