Volleyball Falls to Third Ranked Opponent

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – For the third time this season, the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team squared off against a Top 25 opponent and lost. This time it was Lone Star Conference rival Angelo State winning 25-16, 25-13, 25-6 at the Stephens Arena. (box score)

The Javelinas (2-4, 0-4) hoped to pull off the upset, but were never able to get a consistent, quality attack going during the match. The team managed only 21 kills in the match as Lakeshia Craft (Pflugerville/Connally HS) led the squad with six kills. Freshman Giselle Carreon (Corpus Christi/Carroll HS) added 11 assists while Ali Insell (The Woodlands/The Woodlands HS) was the team’s top defender with 15 digs.

The #20 ‘Belles improved to 11-0 on the season and 3-0 in conference play with the win. Debbie Ohl led the attack with 11 kills and a .375 attack while the team posted an overall attack of .287. Alex Woolsey dished out 29 assists, had eight digs and four service aces. Shelby Wilt added a team-high 12 digs.

The Javelinas are back in action on Thursday night at home against LSC rival Cameron at 7 p.m. as part of Kleberg Bank’s “Pack the House” night at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
