
KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – #23 West Texas A&M completed their three-game sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday in Lone Star Conference South Division action at Hubert Field, 3-0. (

The Lady Buffs (30-11, 7-5) and Javelinas (22-22, 3-9) were knotted 0-0 heading into the fifth inning when West Texas was finally able to get on the board. Kristina Myles led off the inning with a double and scored on Meghan Slattery’s double. Slattery crossed home plate after Alyssa Lemos cracked the third double of the inning. The Buffs added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Kim LeComte drove in a run with a double.
The Javelinas never seriously threatened to score in the game although Yvette Berlanga (San Antonio/O’Connor HS) did lead off the fourth inning with a double, but she was stranded. She had two of the team’s three hits in the game. Amanda Arriaga (Kingsville/H.M. King HS) pitched a complete game, but was dealt the loss after surrendering 11 hits. She only walked one batter while striking out three.
Marci Womack picked up her second win of the series by tossing 5.1 shutout innings. She struck out four and did not walk a batter. Shelbey Cockrell pitched the final 1.2 innings to earn the save. She struck out four and walked one.
The Javelinas are back in action on April 15 at Abilene Christian.
