Softball Shut Out by Cards

  SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team traveled to Lone Star Conference South Division rival Incarnate Word for a doubleheader on Friday night lost 1-0 and 3-0 at Cardinal Field. (Game 1, Game 2)

In the first game, Whitney Waltrip’s fourth inning solo home run proved to be the difference in the game. The Javelinas (24-30, 5-15) loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning, but were unable to score.

Briana Sanchez pitched a complete game victory for the Cardinals (30-21, 14-6). She allowed three hits and three walks while striking out 11. Amanda Arriaga (Kingsville/H.M. King HS) pitched a complete game for the Hogs allowing nine hits, one run and no walks while striking out three.

In the second game, Waltrip pitched a shutout of her own for the Cardinals allowing five hits and three walks while striking out five.

The Cardinals scored a run in the first and two more in the fifth inning. Chelsea Muskopf went 3-for-3 with a run scored while Sarah Holub drove in two with a double.

Cassandra Hernandez (Harlingen/Harlingen South HS) was tagged with the loss despite pitching a complete game. She allowed 11 hits and three runs. Rose Stubbs (Garland/Garland HS) went 2-for-3 at the plate, but did have her 41 game errorless streaked at shortstop snapped in the fifth inning of the game.

The two teams will finish off their series with one game on Saturday at noon.
