
ARKADELPHIA, ARKANSAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team did not let a layoff of 12 days affect them negatively. On Sunday, the team swept a doubleheader at Ouachita Baptist, 9-3 and 7-2. (

Lindsey Brown (Spring/Spring HS) sparked the Javelinas (11-10) in the first game. She cracked home runs in her first two at bats. The first was a three-run shot in the top of the first inning and then she hit a two-run homer in the third inning.
The Hoggies added two more runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh inning on a two run homer by Taylor Munguia (Houston/Cy-Ridge HS).
The Tigers (5-10) scored a run in the fourth when they pulled off a double steal. They added two more runs in the fifth on a two-run homer by Sara Strassmeier.
Amanda Arriaga (Kingsville/H.M. King HS) pitched a complete game to earn her fifth win of the year. She allowed six hits and no walks while striking out seven. Kristen Rigsbee was handed the loss after allowing six hits and five runs in 2.1 innings.
The Javelinas pounded out 14 hits in the win with six players each getting two hits. Brown scored twice and drove in five runs while Munguia scored twice and drove in three runs.
In the second game, Brown made her first pitching appearance since February 12. She allowed an unearned run in the first inning, but no more after that. She pitched 4.0 innings to earn her fifth win of the year. Arriaga tossed the final three innings with five strikeouts to pick up the save.
The Javelinas took the lead in the top of the third inning on Kaycee Bryan’s (Splendora/Splendora HS) two-run single.
In the fifth inning, the Hoggies put the game away with five runs. The team loaded the bases on three consecutive singles to lead off the inning, but then Rayn House was able to retire the next two batters. Arriaga came through with a bases clearing double and then Yvette Berlanga (San Antonio/O’Connor HS) followed with a two-run homer.
The Javelinas had eight hits in the game. Both Berlanga and and Bryan each had two hits. Rose Stubbs (Garland/Garland HS) and Ali Bodnar (Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley HS) each scored a pair of runs.
The Javelinas are back in action on Monday morning at Henderson State for a doubleheader starting at 9 a.m.
