Softball Drops 8-3 Game

  PORTALES, NEW MEXICO – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team dropped the third game of their Lone Star Conference South Division series at Eastern New Mexico after winning the first two games on Friday, 8-3. (box score)

The Javelinas (20-16, 3-6) got on the board first when Kaycee Bryan (Splendora/Splendora HS) doubled and scored on an error by the Zias (10-23, 2-7).  The Zias bounced back with a run in the second inning and then took the lead for good in the third inning.  Tessa Fioritti led off with a home run and two batters later Katlyn Medrano hit a two-run homer.

The Javelinas were unable to stop the Zia offense that scored another run in the fifth and put the game away in the sixth with three runs.  They had 13 hits as a team with Medrano leading the way with a 3-for-3 performance including two runs, three RBI’s, a double and a homer.  Fioritti and Emily Livingston each had two hits in the game.  Erin Roufosse picked up a complete game win allowing seven hits, two earned runs and two walks while striking out three.

Bryan continued her torrid hitting for the weekend going 2-for-4 with two runs.  She finished the weekend going 8-for-12 in the three games.  Roxanne Rodriguez (Portland/Gregory-Portland HS) added a pair of hits while Amanda Arriaga (Kingsville/H.M. King HS) and Janay Gonzalez (Alice/Alice HS) each drove in a run.  Arriaga was tagged with the loss after allowing eight hits and five runs in 4.1 innings.

The Hoggies are back in action on Friday in San Angelo for the LSC Crossover Tournament.
