Javelina Softball Drops Two at #1 ASU

  SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team traveled to #1 Angelo State on Friday and was dealt a pair of losses, 5-3 and 12-0, in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader. (Game 1, Game 2)

In the first game, the Javelinas (13-12, 0-2) tied the game 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning after Ali Bodnar (Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley HS) and Kaycee Bryan (Splendora/Splendora HS) each scored.

The Rambelles (22-1, 2-0) took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kacie Easley doubled to drive in Dee Shana Lynn Tafiti with the go ahead run with two outs. They tacked on another run in the sixth inning.

The Javelinas had five hits in the game. Bodnar and Taylor Munguia (Houston/Cy-Ridge HS) each had doubles. Amanda Arriaga (Kingsville/H.M. King HS) singled and drove in a run. She was tagged with the loss after allowing eight hits and four earned runs in a complete game.

Mary Kate McKay improved to 9-0 on the season for the Belles. She allowed five hits, two earned runs and one walk while striking out five in 5.0 innings. Clarissa Molina pitched 2.0 perfect innings to pick up the save. Easley, Kaycee Taylor and Morgan Spearman each had two hits.

In the second game, the Belles scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back. McKay and Jessica Newsome combined on a no-hitter with McKay picking up her 10th win of the year. Chelsey Walters drove in four runs on two hits while Spearman added two doubles, three runs and three RBI’s.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday for one game at 1 p.m.
