Women's Basketball Ends Season with Loss

   SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s basketball team ended their season on Saturday afternoon with a 77-57 loss at Lone Star Conference South Division rival Incarnate Word.  (box score)

The Cardinals (9-17, 5-9) used a 16-0 run early in the first half to build up a comfortable lead.  They led by as many as 18 points in the first half and never led by fewer than 10 points for the final 31:06 of the ball game.

The Javelinas (3-23, 1-13) finished the season on a nine game losing streak.  They shot 31.0 percent from the field, made 8-of-21 three-point attempts and were 13-for-19 at the foul line.  Brandy Garcia (Edinburg/Edinburg North HS), Victoria Gonzalez (Hidalgo/Hidalgo HS) and Chelsea Solis (San Antonio/Wagner HS) each had 11 points in the game to lead the team.  Ashley Perez (Lytle/Lytle HS) led the squad with seven rebounds while Gonzalez blocked three shots giving her 42 on the season, which is the fourth best total in school history.

The Cardinals shot 47.4 percent from the field, made 2-of-8 from three-point range and were 21-for-27 at the foul line.  Chloe Wallace led the team with 23 points and 12 rebounds.  Katy Cooke added 16 points, Rose Whitehead had 14 off the bench and Ifunanya Mora had 12 points.  Cooke also dished out a game high seven assists.  They grabbed 10 more rebounds than the Hoggies and committed three fewer turnovers.
