The Greyhounds (6-7, 1-0) scored the first 13 points of the game and jumped out to a 19-3 lead in the first 12:09 of the game. The Javelinas (5-8, 0-1) fought back closing to within 11 points at halftime and then outscored the Greyhounds 17-8 to start the second half and pull to within two points with 13:50 remaining in the game.
The Greyhounds responded with a quick 10-0 run over the next 2:25. They maintained a 12-point lead until the three minute mark when they scored nine straight points to close out the game.
The Javelinas shot 34.0 percent from the field, made 7-of-19 three-point attempts and were 6-for-9 at the foul line. Antwan Mullins (Katy/Cinco Ranch HS) led the team with 14 points and three assists off the bench. Adam Morris (Goliad/Goliad HS) added 12 points off the bench while Ryan Wallace (Spring/Tomball HS) scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds. Mark Stevenson (South Bend, IN/R.J. Reynolds HS) led the team with nine rebounds and two steals.
The Greyhounds shot 50.9 percent from the field, made 6-of-19 three-point attempts and were 10-for-18 from the foul line. Four players scored in double figures with Victor Reid leading the team with 13 points. Max Carrier added nine points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
The Greyhounds grabbed 10 more rebounds than the Javelinas, but committed three more turnovers.
The Javelinas are back in action on Saturday against Incarnate Word at 3 p.m. at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
