Softball Season Comes to Abrupt End

STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball season came to an abrupt end on Monday afternoon as they lost at Lone Star Conference South Division rival Tarleton State, 4-3. The loss knocked the Javelinas (22-23, 8-10) out of the playoff race and pushed the TexAnns (23-25, 8-9) into the LSC Tournament. (Box score)

The Javelinas entered the weekend needing to win 2-of-3 games from the TexAnns to make the postseason, but Monday’s loss knocked them out of the running.

The Hoggies jumped out to an early lead scoring an unearned run in the first inning. The Javelinas remained in the lead until the bottom of the fourth inning when the TexAnns tied the game on an RBI single by Victoria Kelly.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Javelinas regained the lead when Lindsey Brown (Spring/Spring HS) hit a two-out, two-run home run.

Tarleton State came back and tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. Arianna Rodriguez led off with a double and that was followed by three more singles. They tied the game on a bases loaded walk to Julie Norris.

In the seventh inning, the TexAnns were able to win the game on Brandie Simmons’ two-out, game-winning single.

Norris picked up the win after allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out four. The TexAnns pounded out 12 hits in the game as Simmons led the team with two runs batted in.
