Walk Off Homer Spells Defeat

DENTON, TEXAS – A walk off home run by blank gave Texas Woman’s University a 3-1 win over visiting Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday afternoon. (box score)

The Pioneers (29-14, 6-3) won the rubber game of the three-game set on Jordan Readicker’s one-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.  It was her fifth home run of the year.

The Javelinas (19-18, 7-5) had a chance to take a lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning when Ariel Lichtenberger (Alice/Alice HS) reached third base with no outs.  Unfortunately, the Hoggies were unable to bring in the run as Carly Case retired the side for TWU.

Case picked up her 19th win of the season as she allowed just four hits, one run and two walks while striking out one in 7.0 innings.  Her counterpart, Amanda Arriaga (Kingsville/H.M. King HS), was tagged with the loss despite pitching very well.  She allowed eight hits, three runs and no walks while striking out a season high nine batters.

The Javelinas scored first in the game when Cassie Anderson (Splendora/Splendora HS) drove in Dalia Marroquin (Brownsville/Porter HS) with a single in the third.

The Pioneers tied the game in the fourth inning when Amy Menge singled home Billie Callahan.

The Javelinas are back in action on Wednesday for a 2 o’clock doubleheader at Texas A&M-International.
