
DURANT, OKLAHOMA – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball split a pair of games on Friday at the Lone Star Conference Crossover Tournament. They lost to Central Oklahoma, 6-5 and then pounded Southwestern Oklahoma, 14-0. (

In their loss to the Bronchos (16-9), the Javelinas (13-14) fell behind 5-0 before battling back, but they came up just short. Central Oklahoma scored a run in the first inning, three unearned runs in the second inning and single runs in both the third and fifth innings.
The Javelinas finally got on the board in the fourth inning when Amanda Arriaga (Kingsville/H.M. King HS) led off with a solo home run. They added another run when Cassie Anderson (Splendora/Splendora HS) doubled home Dalia Marroquin (Brownsville/Porter HS). In the fifth inning, Ariel Lichtenberger (Alice/Alice HS) led off with a homer.
In the sixth inning, the Javelinas scored a pair of runs on Lindsey Brown’s (Spring/Spring HS) two-run single, but were unable to score the tying run.
The Javelinas had 10 hits as Anderson went 3-for-4 with two doubles and Lichtenberger finished 2-for-3. Brown was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs in five innings.
The Bronchos finished with nine hits as Kacie Edwards and Brittany Weaver each had two hits. Molly Shivers picked up the win as she pitched 5.0 innings allowing three runs and striking out eight. Rachael Steverson pitched the final two innings to earn the save.
The Hoggies scored a season high 14 runs and pounded out 17 hits in the game against Southwestern Oklahoma. They led 6-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning and exploded for eight runs in the inning. Lichtenberger hit a two-run homer in the inning and Yvette Berlanga (San Antonio/O’Connor HS) followed with a grand slam to cap off the 8-run rally.
Kaycee Bryan (Splendora/Splendora HS) had a big game for the Javelinas going 4-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, an RBI and a stolen base. Brown finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs and four runs batted in. Anderson and Berlanga each had a pair of hits.
Arriaga pitched five shutout innings allowing just three hits while striking out five to improve to 2-1. Jessica Schneider (Flatonia/Schulenburg HS) pitched the final inning to complete the shutout.
The Hoggies play two games on Saturday starting with a 10 a.m. game against Northeastern State and then a 4 o’clock start against Southeastern Oklahoma.
