
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team traveled to Incarnate Word for a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals won both ends 8-2 and 9-0 at Cardinal Field.
In the first game, the Cardinals (5-6) jumped out to an 8-0 lead through the first four innings. The Javelinas (3-6) added solo runs in the fifth and seventh innings.
Briana Sanchez was the star of the game for the home team as she pitched a complete game. She allowed four hits, three walks and two runs while striking out 14 in the game. Lea Padilla hit a home run and drove in four runs while Monica Acuna and Kelley Moritz each had two hits in the game.
Dalia Marroquin (Brownsville/Harlingen HS) has two hits and an RBI for the Javelinas. Lindsey Brown (Spring/Spring HS) was tagged with the loss in the pitcher’s circle.
In the second game, the Cardinals scored five runs in the first and four more runs in the second inning. Alex Carraman led UIW with three hits, two runs and an RBI while Sarah Holub drove in three runs. Padilla picked up the win by tossing 5.0 shutout innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out four.
Melissa St. Clair (Garden City, KS/Garden City HS) went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Javelinas. Amanda Arriaga (Kingsville/H.M. King HS) pitched 3.0 innings of relief allowing three hits, two unearned runs and two walks while striking out one.
The Javelinas are back in action on Saturday at St. Edward’s for a doubleheader at noon.
