Aggies Shut Down Hogs

LAWTON, OKLAHOMA – For the first time this year the Texas A&M-Kingsville men’s basketball team lost when they allowed fewer than 70 points in a game as they fell to Cameron University, 59-48 on the road on Thursday night.

The Javelinas (10-4) entered the game with a perfect 9-0 mark on the season when holding their opponent to under 70 points, but the Aggie (10-4) defense proved to be a tough riddle to crack.  The Hoggies never led in the game as they struggled to shoot from the field and the Aggies had the answers as they made 9-of-19 three-pointers.

The Javelinas were led on the offensive end by senior Royce Gaye (Houston/Klein HS).  He was the team’s only player to score in double figures as he had 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and a 4-for-4 performance at the foul line.  Naquawn Lee (San Antonio/East Central HS) added nine points and a team high eight rebounds.  The Hogs shot 34.0 percent from the field for the game.  They made 4-of-17 from three-point range and 8-of-13 from the foul line.  They committed 10 turnovers and forced 11 in the game.

The Aggies had three players score in double figures.  Jacquez Williams led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds while Greg Morgan had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Nathan Murray came off the bench to score 11 points.  They shot 39.1 percent from the field and were 14-for-23 from the foul line.  They pulled down eight more rebounds than the Hoggies.

The Javelinas travel to Lone Star Conference North Division rival Southwestern Oklahoma for a Saturday showdown at 4 o’clock.
