Hoggies Lose at UCO

  EDMOND, OKLAHOMA – The Texas A&M-Kingsville men’s basketball team was a dealt an 89-73 loss to open up the New Year on the road at Central Oklahoma on Tuesday night.  (box score)

The Bronchos (9-4) jumped on the Javelinas (10-3) right from the tip-off as they made a three-pointer 12 seconds into the game and never looked back.  A Taylor Phillips lay-up with 7:59 left in the first half gave the home team a 34-13 lead.  They would go into the break with a 47-30 lead.

The Javelinas started the second half on a 6-0 run to pull within 11 points, but that was as close as they would get.  The Bronchos led by as many as 25 points in the second half.

Late in the game, the Javelinas went on a 7-0 run to close to within 12 points with 2:55 to play, but the Bronchos defense held the Hogs to just two points over the remainder of the game.

Junior Antwan Mullins (Katy/Cinco Ranch HS) led the Javelinas with 16 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.  He went 6-for-6 from the foul line.  Flavio Milam (Killeen/Ellison HS) and Royce Gaye (Houston/Klein HS) each had 13 points while Ryan Wallace (Spring/Tomball HS) added 10 points.  The Hogs shot 37.5 percent from the field, made only 4-of-26 three-pointers and were 15-for-22 from the foul line.

The Bronchos had six players score in double figures including the entire starting five.  Dauntae Williams led the team with 15 points, nine rebounds and eight assists while Eric Cazenave had 12 points, seven assists and six rebounds.  Chris Rhymes led the team with 16 points and added six boards.  Tyler Phillips had 15 points and eight rebounds.

The Bronchos shot 47.8 percent from the field, made 7-of-25 three-pointers and 18-of-25 free throws.  They pulled down six more rebounds than the Javelinas.

The Javelinas are back in action on Thursday at Cameron University at 8 o’clock.
