Hogs Struggle Against Texans

  KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – The Tarleton State men’s basketball team proved to be too strong for Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday night at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.  The Texans won the Lone Star Conference South Division game, 74-50.  (box score)

The Texans (17-3, 5-0) took a 10-point lead into halftime thanks to the excellent outside shooting of Effran Bryant who went 5-for-6 from three-point range in the period.

In the second half, the Texans executed nearly flawlessly on offense as they shot 63.6 percent from the field.  Devon Hills led the charge with 13 points while going 4-for-4 from the field.

The Texans shot 53.3 percent from the field for the game and led by as many as 28 points in the second half.  They went 8-for-18 from three-point range and were 18-for-28 at the foul line.

The Javelinas were plagued by foul problems throughout the game as they committed 26 fouls against only 13 for the Texans.  The Hoggies shot 37.0 percent from the field, made 7-of-23 from three-point range and were 3-for-6 at the foul line.  Marcus Ford (Colorado Springs, CO/Mesa Ridge HS) led the team with 12 points and five rebounds off the bench as he went 5-for-9 from the field.  Antwan Mullins (Katy/Cinco Ranch HS) added 11 points, five assists and three steals.

The Texans had four players score in double figures.  Bryant led the team with 22 points and six three-pointers.  Hills finished with 19 points and six rebounds.  Corin Henry added 15 points and four assists while Donta Smith chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds.  TSU grabbed eight more rebounds than the Hogs and committed two fewer turnovers.

The Javelinas are back in action on Tuesday night at 7:30 at Abilene Christian.
