WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville men’s basketball team fell to #10 Midwestern State, 85-66, on Wednesday night in Lone Star Conference South Division play. (box score)
The Mustangs (18-1, 3-1) used a 12-2 run at the end of the first half and a 17-6 run to start the second half to take control of the game. The led 41-25 at halftime and led by as many as 30 points in the second half before the Javelinas (11-8, 1-3) closed the gap with a late burst.
The Hoggies had three players score in double figures. Naquawn Lee (San Antonio/East Central HS) led the team with 16 points, seven rebounds and two steals. He went 6-for-10 from the field and knocked down a pair of three-pointers. Antwan Mullins (Katy/Cinco Ranch HS) added 12 points and three assists while Royce Gaye (Houston/Klein HS) had 11 points. Marcus Ford (Colorado Springs, CO/Mesa Ridge HS) had eight points and seven rebounds off the bench.
The Javelinas shot 35.3 percent from the field, made 5-of-20 three-point attempts and were 13-for-17 at the foul line. They forced 22 turnovers while committing 14.
The Mustangs had six players score between 10 and 12 points in the game. Jason Ebie had 12 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds as he went 8-for-10 from the foul line. Rashad Austin came off the bench to score 11 points, grab seven rebounds and block five shots.
The Mustangs shot 62 percent from the field, made 2-of-8 three-pointers and were 21-for-28 at the foul line. They pulled down 13 more rebounds than the Javelinas.
The Javelinas are back in action on Saturday at 7 o’clock when they host division rival Tarleton State at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
