DENTON, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team just keeps winning as they polished off UT-Permian Basin in their first match at the Texas Woman’s University Tournament on Friday morning, 25-21, 19-25, 25-18, 25-23. (TWU Tournament site)
The Javelinas improved to 6-0, the best start in school history, but they did finally drop their first set of the season in the win over UT-PB.
Leading the charge for the Hoggies in all facets of the game was senior Tara Grier (Poth/Poth HS) who recorded her first career triple-double. She pounded out 14 kills, assisted on 14 others and had 10 digs. She finished the match with a .176 attack and added an ace and a block.
Junior outside hitter Sha Tramble (Houston/Clear Brook HS) led the overall Javelina attack with a match high 18 kills and a .455 attack. She also had 10 digs in the match. Adina Gray (Corpus Christi/Flour Bluff HS) and Kristin Chancellor (Bellville/Bellville HS) each added nine kills. Defensively, junior libero Virginia Hernandez (Katy/Katy HS) led the way with 20 digs. Kirby Krueger (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) led the team with 22 assists.
The Javelinas had a lower attack percentage than UT-PB, but managed to pound out 13 more kills than their opponent. Molly Atnip and Alex Genung combined for 25 kills for Permian Basin while Brianna Tunnell dished out 31 assists. Mica Lamprecht and Danae Eckart each had 13 digs apiece in the match.
