Volleyball Drops Fourth Straight

  EDMOND, OKLAHOMA – After a fantastic start to the season the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team has hit a rough patch.  The team lost 25-15, 17-25, 25-20, 25-20 at Central Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon to stretch their losing streak to four.

The Javelinas (9-7, 0-4) and the Bronchos (8-9, 1-3) split the first two sets, but then the Bronchos were able to put the match away in the third and fourth sets.

The Javelinas relied heavily upon seniors Adina Gray (Corpus Christi/Flour Bluff HS) and Kristin Chancellor (Bellville/Bellville HS).  Gray led the team with 15 kills, four digs and a .312 attack.  Chancellor pounded out 10 kills, had four blocks and posted a .350 attack, her eighth straight match with at least a .300 attack. 
Overall, the team finished with a .206 attack compared to a .286 attack for the Bronchos.

Seniors Kirby Krueger (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) and Tara Grier (Poth/Poth HS) directed the Javelina attack.  Krueger finished with a team high 27 assists to go along with seven digs.  Grier just missed posting her second straight triple-double.  She finished the match with nine kills, 19 assists and 11 digs.  Virginia Hernandez (Katy/Katy HS) led the team with 13 digs.

The Bronchos were led by the trio of Alex Richardson, Zuela Adom and Kristen Wilson.  Richardson pounded out 18 kills, had a .438 attack and six blocks.  Adom had 14 kills, six blocks and a .360 attack.  Wilson added 14 kills and 12 digs.  Meaghan Wedberg dished out 50 assists in the match.

The Javelinas are at St. Edward’s on Friday at 7 o’clock.
