Bulldogs Down Javelinas

WEATHERFORD, OKLAHOMA – On Thursday night, the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team went on the road for a Lone Star Conference match at Southwestern Oklahoma.  The Bulldogs topped the Javelinas in four sets by a score of 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21.  (box score)

The first three sets went back-and-forth with the Bulldogs (4-15, 1-2) pulling out two wins.  The fourth set proved to be a wild finale to the match.  The two teams were tied 10-10 when the Bulldogs scored nine of the next 10 points to take a 19-11 lead.  The Javelinas (9-6, 0-3) came right back with nine straight points on Kirby Krueger’s (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) serve to tie the match at 20-20.  Unfortunately, the Hoggies would have two attack errors and two service errors to allow SWOSU to take the match.

The Javelinas were led on the attack by senior Adina Gray (Corpus Christi/Flour Bluff HS) who had a match high 15 kills to go with a .343 attack and two blocks.  Jess Morris (Goliad/Goliad HS) had her best match of the season with 11 kills and five digs.  Kristin Chancellor (Bellville/Bellville HS) led the team with a .368 attack and four blocks to go along with eight kills.  It was her seventh straight match with at least a .300 attack.  Finally, senior Tara Grier (Poth/Poth HS) notched her second triple-double of the season with 24 assists, 13 digs and 11 kills.

The Javs also received help from Krueger who had 20 assists and Virginia Hernandez (Katy/Katy HS) led the team with 21 digs.

The Bulldogs were led by Jenny Naramore who had 12 kills, a .308 attack and two blocks.  Kristen Kaufman added 32 assists and 14 digs.

Overall, the Javelinas pounded 17 more kills than the Bulldogs, but also had seven more attack errors and seven more service errors.

The Javelinas are back in action on Saturday at Central Oklahoma at 2 o’clock.
