Rigamonti Picks Up Two Wins for Javs

Courtney Rigamonti picked up two wins on Wednesday  LAREDO, TEXAS – Texas A&M-Kingsville senior pitcher Courtney Rigamonti (Victoria/St. Joseph HS) picked up notched two more wins on her belt on Wednesday at Texas A&M International.  The Javelinas (27-17) won 10-1 and 7-2 in non-conference softball action.  (Game 1, Game 2)

Rigamonti pitched extremely well in both ends of the doubleheader.  First, she pitched a complete game allowing just four hits, one unearned run and no walks while striking out two in run-rule shortened game.  Then, she came on in relief in the second game going 3.2 innings while allowing one hit, one walk and no runs while striking out three.  She improved to 23-9 on the season and moved into a tie for second on the single season Javelina wins list.

With Rigamonti controlling the Dustdevils’ (22-20) bats, the Javelina offense took advantage of the situation.  In the first game, the Hoggies led 3-1 heading into the fifth inning when they scored seven runs in the top of the inning.  The team had 14 hits in the game as freshman Kaycee Bryan (Splendora/Splendora HS) led the way with a 3-for-3 performance that included, four runs batted in, a run scored, a double and a stolen base.  Meisha Patterson (Dumas/Dumas HS) had two hits, including a double to go along with two runs scored and an RBI.  Shaun Bryan (Splendora/Splendora HS) and Dalia Marroquin (Brownsville/Porter HS) each added a pair of hits.

In the second game, the Javelinas jumped out to an early lead when Melissa St. Clair (Garden City, KS/Garden City HS) singled in two runs with two outs in the first game.  The Dustdevils came back with a run in the bottom of the first inning and then tied the game in the fourth inning when Allison Stein led off with a solo home run.  They eventually loaded the bases with one out before Rigamonti retired the side.

The Javs added an unearned run in the fifth and two unearned runs in the sixth inning.  They put the game out of reach in the seventh inning when they added two more runs.

Cassie Anderson (Splendora/Splendora HS) went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs to lead the Hoggie offense.  St. Clair, Ariel Lichtenberger (Alice/Alice HS) and Yvette Berlanga (San Antonio/O’Connor HS) each had two hits in the game.  The team had 11 hits overall.

Brianna Sanchez led the Dustdevils with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate that included a double.

The Javelinas are back in action on Friday when they travel to St. Edward’s for a doubleheader starting at 1 o’clock.
