DURANT, OKLAHOMA – After playing two excellent games in the Lone Star Conference Regional tournament, the Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team struggled on Saturday afternoon against #4 Southeastern Oklahoma losing 5-1 and were eliminated from the tournament. (box score)
The Savage Storm (50-10) scored in four of the seven innings while Jami McAdoo scattered eight hits to shut down the Javelinas (32-22). Bailey Mathes led the Storm’s offensive output with three hits including two home runs to go with four RBI’s and two runs scored. They pounded out 10 hits as a team and never allowed the Hoggies to get close.
The Javs had runners in scoring position in the third and fourth innings, but were unable to score. They finally pushed across a run in the sixth when Shaun Bryan (Splendora/Splendora HS) drove in Cassie Anderson (Splendora/Splendora HS) with a two-out single after Anderson had doubled to lead off the inning. Both players finished with two hits in the game and Anderson’s last hit gave her a single season Javelina record as she finished the year batting .437 breaking Kassie Rezza’s 2006 mark of .434.
Senior Courtney Rigamonti (Victoria/St. Joseph HS) pitched valiantly, but gave up four earned runs while striking out seven. She finished the season with a 27-14 record which puts her second on the all-time charts. She set school records for games pitched (47), games started (36), complete games (32) and innings pitched (274.1) this year. She also struck out 229 batters on the season. Seniors Meisha Patterson (Dumas/Dumas HS) and Jasmine Ross (Camilla, GA/Camilla HS) each had a base hit in the final game of their careers.
The Javelinas have now advanced to the conference playoffs in three straight seasons and this year they improved 11.0 games from last season.
