Javs Take Series from Zias

Jasmine Ross drove in three runs on Saturday  PORTALES, NEW MEXICO – The #24 Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team finished off its series at Lone Star Conference South Division rival Eastern New Mexico with a 4-2 win on Saturday behind the pitching of Courtney Rigamonti (Victoria/St. Joseph HS) and hitting of Jasmine Ross (Camilla, GA/Camilla HS).  The Javelinas won two of three games in the series.  (box score)

Rigamonti tied a career high with her 13th win of the season for the Javelinas (16-7, 4-2).  She held the Zias (14-10, 2-4) to just one hit through the first six innings and finished the game allowing three hits, two runs and three walks while striking out five batters.

Ross drove in a career high three runs and stroked her first career triple.  In the second inning, her two-out single scored Shaun Bryan (Splendora/Splendora HS) from second.  Her two-run triple in the top of the seventh inning proved to be the winning margin for the Hoggies.  She also stole her fifth base of the season.

Bryan went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored while Cassie Anderson (Splendora/Splendora HS) had a double and scored the team’s other run when Yvette Berlanga (San Antonio/O’Connor HS) drove her in with a single in the third inning.

Laura Thompson led the Zia offense going 1-for-2 with a double, a run and an RBI.  She also reached base via walk and hit by pitch.  Kimberly Crouse picked up the loss after pitching a complete game while allowing eight hits and no walks.  She struck out three batters.

The Javelinas are at home on Tuesday for a doubleheader with Lincoln University starting at 4 o’clock.
