#4 Savage Storm Sweeps Javelinas

Kaycee Bryan went 3-for-3 in the second game on Sunday  DURANT, OKLAHOMA – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team was swept by #4 Southeastern Oklahoma on Sunday, 3-0 and 10-5 at the SOSU Softball Complex.  (Game 1, Game 2)

In the first game, Javelina (22-15) starting pitcher Courtney Rigamonti (Victoria/St. Joseph HS) and Savage Storm (38-7) starting pitcher Marjorie Johnson locked up in a duel.  The Storm pushed a run across in the third when Benita Sanchez singled in a run with two outs.

The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning when Johnson helped out her own cause with a two-out, two-run home run.  In the circle, Johnson allowed just one hit and walked five while striking out 17 batters to improve to 17-1 on the season.

Rigamonti allowed four hits, one earned run and two walks while striking out five batters.  Her record is now 18-9 on the season.

In the second game, the bats came alive for both teams.  The Storm scored three times in the first inning and held a 5-0 lead heading into the top of the fourth.

 The Javelinas scratched across a run in the fourth and another in the fifth inning to pull to within 5-2, but then the Storm scored three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning.

 The Hoggies rapped out three hits and scored two unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning, but once again the Storm responded with a two-run homer by Erika Bernal.  The Javs added a final run in the top of the seventh inning to make the final, 10-5.

 The Javelinas finished the game with 10 hits.  Kaycee Bryan (Splendora/Splendora HS) led the attack with a 3-for-3 performance that included a stolen base, run scored and RBI.  Ariel Lichtenberger (Alice/Alice HS) had two hits and drove in a run while Shaun Bryan (Splendora/Splendora HS) had a pair of singles and scored a run.  Kelli Sears (Floresville/Floresville HS) lasted two innings pitching and was handed the loss.

 The Storm had 14 hits in the game with Bernal leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance that included three runs, two RBI’s and a homer.  Bailey Mathes added two hits, scored two runs, drove in two runs and had a home run.  Morgan Miller also added a solo home run.  Jami McAdoo picked up her 12th win of the season by pitching 5.0 innings allowing six hits, two runs and one walk while striking out three.

 The Javelinas are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to St. Mary’s for a doubleheader that starts at 3 o’clock.
