Rigamonti Pitches a Gem

Courtney Rigamonti pitched a 1-hitter on Saturday  KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – Texas A&M-Kingsville senior pitcher Courtney Rigamonti (Victoria/St. Joseph HS) allowed just one hit while striking out a career high 10 batters in the softball team’s 3-2 victory over Lone Star Conference South Division rival Tarleton State on Saturday.  (box score)

The Javelinas (14-6, 2-1) and TexAnns (12-7, 1-2) went quickly through the first 3.5 innings as Rigamonti and Julie Norris used the advantage of a strong wind blowing in to shut down both offenses.  In the fourth inning, the Hoggies took advantage of two TexAnn errors and got key hits from Ariel Lichtenberger (Alice/Alice HS) and Jasmine Ross (Camilla, GA/Camilla HS) to score three unearned runs.

Rigamonti struck eight of the first 11 batters she faced and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning.  In the top of the sixth, Jamie Grounds struck out, but reached base when the pitch went wild.  Two outs later, Tamra Bradley made the Javelinas pay as she crushed a two-run homer to left field.

In the seventh inning, Rigamonti walked the first batter of the inning, but then retired the final three to improve to 11-3 on the season and give the Hoggies the series victory.  She allowed just one hits, two runs and one walk while striking out 10 batters.

Norris was tagged with her first loss of the season as she allowed seven hits, three runs and no walks while striking out one.

Lichtenberger and Ross led the Hoggie offense with two hits and an RBI apiece.  Shaun Bryan (Splendora/Splendora HS) had the team’s only extra-base hit, a double.
The Javelinas are off to their best 20-game start to a season since the 2005 campaign when they started 18-2.  The team is back in action on Friday when they travel to LSC South rival Eastern New Mexico.
