TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – The Texas A&M-Kingsville men’s basketball team ran into the wrong team at the wrong time on Thursday night at Northeastern State. The Riverhawks (4-3) shot 50 percent in the first half and held the Javelinas (6-2) to 25 percent shooting from the floor to take a 29-18 halftime lead. In the second half, the Riverhawks went 16-for-21 from the field and 8-for-9 from three-point range.
The Javelinas had two players score in double figures. Point guard Antwan Mullins (Katy/Cinco Ranch HS) led the team with 13 points, four assists and three steals. Red-shirt freshman Brock Kimball (Ingleside/Ingleside HS) came off the bench to score a career high 11 points as he made three three-pointers. Royce Gaye (Houston/Klein HS) went 0-for-7 from the field, but 9-for-10 from the foul line.
The Riverhawks out rebounded the Hoggies by a 38-14 margin as they limited the Javelinas to just four offensive rebounds. Marlon Burnett led all players with 10 rebounds while adding 10 points for a double-double.
Offensively, Jason Jones led the Riverhawks with 28 points as he went 8-for-10 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 8-of-9 from the foul line. He also added nine rebounds. Ethan Anderson added 13 points, six rebounds and five assists while Antoine Branch added 11 points and five rebounds.
The Javelinas return home on Sunday as they play host to Incarnate Word at 4 o’clock at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. The Javelinas will look to avenge a November 28th 73-72 loss to the Cardinals.
