Hoggies Down Savage Storm in Five

  DURANT, OKLAHOMA – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team continued their recent win streak by knocking off Lone Star Conference rival Southeastern Oklahoma in five sets on the road at Bloomer Sullivan Gym on Thursday night.

The Javelinas (13-9, 3-4) have now won four straight matches, including their last three LSC matches.  The Hoggies dropped the first set 28-26, won the second set 25-22 and lost the third set 25-22.  They easily won the fourth set 25-13 and then came back from a 10-5 deficit in the fifth set to win 17-15.

The Javelinas played an excellent defensive match with 12.0 blocks and 98 digs.  Amanda Waclawczyk (Poth/Poth HS) and Casey Chancellor (Bellville/Bellville HS) each had six blocks apiece to lead the team.  Kristin Chancellor (Bellville/Bellville HS) added four blocks.  Virginia Hernandez (Katy/Katy HS) led the team with 27 digs as five players had at least 10 digs.  Sha Tramble (Houston/Clear Brook HS) added 19 digs.

Offensively, Adina Gray (Corpus Christi/Flour Bluff HS) led the team with 21 kills while Kristin Chancellor added 14 kills and a .324 attack.  Waclawczyk had eight kills and a team high .412 attack.  Tara Grier (Poth/Poth HS) led the squad with 32 assists, 20 digs and six kills.  It was her 10th straight double-double and 14th of the season.

The Savage Storm (17-10, 3-3) pounded out 13 more kills than the Javelinas, but also had 18 more attack errors.  Brittany McDonald led the team with 20 kills while Jordan Jesberg added 14 kills and Jordan Parks had 13.  Alex Cassell led the team with 54 assists and 13 digs.  Three other players had at least 20 digs as Lunden Azuara posted 26 digs.

The Javelinas are back in action on Saturday at East Central at 2 o’clock.
