Javelinas Drop Pair Of Games, But Clinch LSC Tournament Berth

Stephenville - Much like the Javelina baseball team did on Friday, the Javelina softball team earned a berth to the LSC Conference Postseason Tournament despite a loss.

The Javelinas dropped a pair to Tarleton State, 3-1 and 4-3 in extra innings, but West Texas A&M dropped the second game of a doubleheader to Abilene Christian to fall out of contention for the fourth and final playoff bid in the LSC South.

The Javelinas are now 22-31 overall and 7-10 in the LSC South.

Courtney Rigamonti (Victoria St. Joseph's) pitched well in both games, but was the hard luck loser in both.

In the opener she pitched her 25th complete game of the season, allowing only three runs on seven hits while striking out seven and walking none, but the Javelinas could manage only one run on three hits.

The Javelinas took a 1-0 lead with a single run in the third.  Janay Gonzalez (Alice) doubled with one out and scored on an infield single by Meisha Patterson.

But Tarleton State came right back and got two in the bottom of the inning and added one in the fifth.

In the nightcap the Javelinas led 2-0 after the first inning, rallied to tie the game at 3-3 with a run in the fifth, but lost on a walk off home run in the ninth.

Shaun Bryan and Kristin Schumann (Corpus Christi Carroll) each drove in runs in the third and Bryan delivered a two-out run-scoring single in the fifth to tie the game.

The Javelinas had runners at first and third with no outs in the seventh, but couldn't score.

Rigamonti came into the second game in relief in the fifth and retired all 12 batters she faced until allowing a game winning home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth.

The two teams will wrap-up the three game series with a Sunday afternoon contest.
