KINGSVILLE – The Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas got two complete games from their pitching staff in their doubleheader against #4 ranked Angelo State, but could only manage seven hits and could not push a run across the plate in falling 3-0 and 2-0.
The Javelinas’ record now stands at 22-28 and 7-7 in the LSC South.
The Rambelles improved to 40-9 and are 14-3 in LSC South play.
"Angelo is a good team," head coach Blake Miller said. "But we were giving them too much credit and not having enough belief in ourselves."
"We just have to come out and be aggressive," Miller continued. "We have to play our style of ball."
In game one, Courtney Rigamonti allowed two earned runs, struck out two and walked none in seeing her record fall to 13-14 for the Javelinas.
Kari Galm improved to 25-2 for Angelo State. She threw a one-hit, complete game shutout and struck out six.
The game was scoreless through three innings until Macy Baker hit a two-run home run to left-center field that put the Rambelles up 2-0.
Angelo State added their third run in the top of the seventh on a Javelina error.
In game two, Jessika Cantu allowed no earned runs but took the loss to go to 7-11 for A&M-Kingsville.
Brittney Cargill also threw a complete game shutout for the Rams, striking out two and walking two.
The Javelinas had a chance to draw first blood, but left the bases loaded in the third inning.
Like game one, the game was scoreless until the fourth inning. Again it was Baker bringing in a run, this time with a double to right field that plated Whitney Meeks to put Angelo State on top 1-0.
The Rams again copied their formula from the first game, adding an insurance run in the seventh inning. This time it was Alix Dean taking advantage of a bases loaded opportunity with a single to left field that brought in Vanessa Rodriguez.
The Javelinas had the winning run up to bat in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to bring in any runs.
The two teams will conclude their series on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hubert Field.
