Javelinas Wrap-Up Tournament With Split

Durant, Okla. – Sophomore Morgan Seals pitched a complete game two-hitter as Texas A&M-Kingsville beat Southwestern Oklahoma 2-1 in the first game on Sunday in the Lone Star Conference Crossover Tournament.

The Javelinas dropped the second game 2-1 to regionally ranked Midwestern State.

A&M-Kingsville went 3-4 during the three day event, but won three of their final four games. The Javelinas are now 19-21 overall.

Both teams scored all their runs in the first inning of game one with Southwestern scoring one in the top of the first and the Javelinas responded with two in the bottom of the first.

After allowing a run in the top of the first without a hit, the Javelinas bounced right back with two runs to take the lead for good when Shaun Bryan singled to drive in Cassie Anderson and Meisha Patterson.

Seals dominated on the mound after the first inning, running into trouble only in the sixth when she allowed a one-out double, but retired the next two hitters to end the threat. She finished the tournament 2-1 with a save and two complete games.

In game two, Midwestern took a 2-0 lead into the seventh, but the Javelinas rallied for a run in the bottom of the seventh, but left the tying run on the second.

In the final inning, Bryan drew a one-out walk and Julia Canales (H.M. King) followed with a run-scoring double, but the next two hitters were retired to end the game.

Jessika Cantu pitched a complete game, but took the loss.

The Javelinas return to action Wednesday when they face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a doubleheader in Corpus Christi at 1:00 p.m.
