Javelinas Bounce Back To Win Two At LSC Crossover

Seals Earns A Win And A Save

   Durant, Okla. -- After a tough day on Friday, the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelina softball team bounced back for a pair of wins at the Lone Star Conference Crossover Tournament, defeating Northeastern State 6-3 and East Central 7-6.

   The Javelinas are now 18-21 on the season.

   Former high school teammates Shaun Bryan and Cassie Anderson (Splendora) combined for seven hits, five runs scored and two runs batted in during the two games.

   Local products Janay Gonzalez (Alice), Julia Canales (H.M. King) and Kristin Schumann (Corpus Christi Carroll) also had big offensive days to combine for nine hits with four runs scored and seven runs batted in.

   Jessika Cantu (Tuloso-Midway) and Morgan Seals combined to pitch 14 innings with Seals getting a win in game one and a save in game two with Cantu earning a win in game two.

   The Javelinas used a late rally to win game one after trailing 3-2 after five innings.

   A&M-Kingsville got on the board first with two runs in the second on a double by Cantu and a home run by Gonzalez, her first of the season.

   The Riverhawks scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 3-2 advantage into the sixth.

   But the Javelinas rallied, scoring two in the sixth on a double by Gonzalez and the second run scoring on a wild pitch.

   In the seventh A&M-Kingsville added two insurance runs on a run-scoring double by Bryan and a RBI single by Schumann.

   Seals came on in relief of Cantu in the fourth to work the final 3.1 inning to earn the victory.  She stranded a runner at third in the sixth and two runners in the seventh.

   In game two, Seals came on to earn the save, retiring the Tigers in order in the seventh after they had scored two in the sixth to cut the lead to one.

   The Javelinas scored all seven of their runs in the first three innings with three in the first, one in the second and three in the third.

   A&M-Kingsville scored all its runs after two outs in the first.  Canales delivered a run-scoring single followed by a two-run single by Schumann.

   In the second, Gonzalez doubled to leadoff the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Anderson.

   In the third, Meisha Patterson singled and Bryan doubled to start the inning.  They each scored on a throwing error and Jasmine Ross drove in the third run with a single to left.

   East Central rallied several times, but couldn't catch the Javelinas, cutting the lead to 3-2, 4-3 and finally 7-6.
