Javelinas Drop Hearbreaker To Central To End Tough First Day

Durant, Okla. – It was a tough day for the Javelina softball team in the first day of the Lone Star Conference Crossover Tournament as they dropped all three games including a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Central Oklahoma in the finale.

The Javelinas lost 3-0 to #7 Southeastern Oklahoma and 8-0 to Cameron earlier in the day.

Texas A&M-Kingsville is now 16-21 on the season.

The Javelinas are also without their top pitcher Courtney Rigamonti who will miss the weekend with a non-throwing injury.

After being no-hit in the opener and shutout on just four hits in game two, the Javelina offense rebounded in game three.

Kristin Schumann (Corpus Christi Carroll) put the Javelinas on the board with a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the fourth.

Central Oklahoma got a run in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1, but the Javelinas responded with two more runs in the bottom of the inning.

Janay Gonzalez (Alice) led off the inning with a single and scored on a run scoring single by Ariel Lichtenberger (Alice). Cassie Anderson then produced a run-scoring ground out to give the Javelinas a 4-1 lead.

But Central got a run in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-2 and then rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead.

The Javelinas were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.

A&M-Kingsville faces Northeastern State and East Central Saturday.
