Mulkey Scores 21, But It's Not Enough As Season Ends With Loss At ACU

   Abilene -- With a bid to the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament on the line, the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas shot 50 percent from the floor and Wendell Mulkey scored 21 points, but the Hogs allowed a season-high 95 points in a 95-83 loss at Abilene Christian.

   With the win the Wildcats clinched their first bid to the LSC Tournament in 10 years while the Javelinas were eliminated.

   The Javelinas finished the season 16-11 overall and 5-7 in the Lone Star Conference South Division, finishing in fifth place.

   Mulkey hit 10 of 15 shots from the floor and dished out five assists, but ACU's Dejan Sencanski scored 33 points, hitting 12 of 14 shots overall and 6 of 8 3-point shots.  

   Stephen Story, playing in his final game as a Javelina, scored 17 points, but played just 19 minutes before fouling out and Naquawn Lee added 10.

   The Javelinas made just 8 of 23 3-point shots while the Wildcats made 7 of 17.

   The biggest difference came at the free throw line where the Wildcats outscored the Javelinas by 15.  ACU made 30 of 41 while the Javelinas made just 15 of 26.

   ACU jumped out to a 21-9 lead six and a half minutes into the game, but the Hogs stormed back to cut the lead to two, 43-41 at halftime.

   A&M-Kingsville still trailed by just one, 63-62, with 11:16 left in the game.  

   The Wildcat was still just five, 79-74, with 5:10 left in the game, but ACU went on a 10-1 run over the next three and a half minutes to grab an insurmountable 89-75 lead.  

   ACU shot nearly 63 percent from the floor in the second half and finished 60 percent for the game.
