Corpus Christi Tops Kingsville

  KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – In their final exhibition game before the regular season starts, the Texas A&M-Kingsville men’s basketball dropped an 83-64 decision at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the American Bank Center on Friday night. (box score)
The Javelinas trailed the Islanders just 12-11 after an Adam Morris three-pointer with 13:01 to play in the first half.  Unfortunately, the Islanders outscored the Javs 29-7 over the remainder of the half.  Kingsville shot just 6-of-25 from the field in the half.
The second half was much better for the visitors as they outscored Corpus Christi 46-42.  The Hoggies pulled to within 15 points with just under 12 minutes to play before the Islanders went on a 14-2 run to put the game away.
 The Javelinas were led by Robert Williams’ 15 points and six rebounds while Morris added 14 points off the bench while making 5-of-7 shots from the field.  The Hogs shot 54.8 percent from the field in the second half to raise their game total to 41.1 percent.  They made 6-of-18 three-pointers and were 12-of-23 from the foul line.
 The Islanders had four players score in double figures with Jawan Nelson leading the way with 14 points in just 10 minutes off the bench.  Kevin Palmer added 13 points, six assists and five rebounds.  Demond Watt led all players with eight rebounds, six on the offensive end, three blocks and three steals.  The Islanders shot 44.4 percent from the floor, were 5-of-13 from three-point range and 22-of-31 from the free throw line.  They out rebounded the Javelinas by a 50-32 margin.
