SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball has suddenly hit a hot streak winning three straight matches after their 25-14, 25-20, 22-25, 25-19 win at St. Mary’s University on Friday night.
Unfortunately for the Javelinas (10-16) it’s a case of too little too late as they were eliminated from the Lone Star Conference postseason on Thursday. That knowledge did not prevent the team from putting its best foot forward against the Rattlers (8-17).
The Javelinas never trailed in the first set, outscored the Rattlers 6-2 down the stretch in the second set, dropped a close third set and then easily won the fourth set. The Hoggies were led by sophomore outside hitter Sha Tramble (Houston/Clear Brook HS). She led the team with 17 kills and a .467 attack, one of her best performances of the season.
The Javelinas posted a .288 attack percentage as a team. Freshman Amanda Waclawczyk (Poth/Poth HS) tallied a .500 attack to go with 10 kills and five blocks. Junior setter Kirby Krueger (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) directed the offense with 37 assists and 10 digs. In addition to Tramble and Waclawczyk, Shaday Smith (Houston/Jones HS), Kristin Chancellor (Bellville/Bellville HS) and Chelsea Hower (Kingsville/King HS) combined for 26 kills. Sophomore libero Virginia Hernandez (Katy/Katy HS) led the squad with 23 digs.
The Rattlers posted just a .093 attack for the match. Kori McCarver led the team with eight kills, a .200 attack, 14 assists and eight digs. Valerie Teter posted 14 digs while Sondra Cui had 15 assists.
The Javelinas travel to nationally ranked West Texas A&M on Thursday at 7 o’clock.
