LAREDO, TEXAS – Texas A&M-Kingsville senior outside hitter Shaday Smith (Houston/Jones HS) posted a career best attack percentage in leading the volleyball team over Texas A&M International in three sets. The Javelinas won 25-15, 25-21, 25-16. (box score)
Smith led the Javelinas (8-16) with 12 kills and a .733 attack. The Hoggies controlled the match from the first point to the last point and snapped a four match losing streak. The win also made up for a loss the team suffered to the Dustdevils (5-21) earlier in the season at home.
Javelina junior setter Kirby Krueger (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) led the offense by dishing off 23 assists and contributing two kills, two aces and four digs. Junior Kristin Chancellor (Bellville/Bellville HS) and sophomore Sha Tramble (Houston/Clear Brook HS) each had eight kills while Chancellor also led the team with four blocks. Freshman Amanda Waclawczyk (Poth/Poth HS) only had five kills, but did not have an attack error while sophomore Virginia Hernandez (Katy/Katy HS) led the team with 13 digs.
The Javelinas attacked at a .348 percentage for the match and limited the Dustdevils to just a .090 attack. Nicole Gipson led TAMIU with nine kills and a .438 attack. Madison Mojica led the team with 11 digs.
The Javelinas are back in action on Wednesday night at UT-Brownsville at 7 o’clock.
