
KINGSVILLE – With a sweep of the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions, the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas have matched last season’s entire win total. The sweep came by the scores of 30-23, 30-18 and 30-14.
“We need to get as many wins at home as we can,” coach Shannon Alvarado said. “Right now, we’re just trying to get a rhythm and trying to stay consistent.”
The Javelina’s record now stands at 8-7 and 3-3 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Lions fell to 5-11 and 1-4 in LSC action.
Adina Gray and Sha Tramble each had 12 kills to lead A&M-Kingsville.
“Adina Gray came out and was phenomenal,” Alvarado said. “She was the key player for us.”
Heidi Scheopner led the team in assists with 26 while Kirby Krueger added 20.
Tara Grier was the leading Javelina in digs with 20.
The Javelinas started game one on a 17-6 run capped by a Shaday Smith kill and never let up. Even with the Lions going on a 6-0 run in the middle of the game, it only brought them within six points of the Javelinas.
A&M-Kingsville started game two on another run, this one a 9-3 run capped by a Tramble kill. Another 11-3 run in the game gave the Javelinas their biggest lead of the game, 29-15, on another Tramble kill.
In game three, the Javelinas just pushing their lead and pushing their lead. The final score of game, 30-14, was the Javelina’s biggest lead of the game.
The Javelinas will be on the road for a match against UT-Brownsville Tuesday at 7 p.m.
