Javelinas Sweep Tarleton State - Break School Records

Kingsville- Texas A&M-Kingsville sophomore Nora Aguilar pitched a complete game three-hitter in the opener and freshman Morgan Seals held Tarleton State at bay as the Javelina offense rallied for a late inning win in the nightcap and a sweep of the Tarleton State TexAnns Saturday afternoon at Hubert Field.

The 6-1, 6-5 sweep improved the Javelinas’ record to 30-16 overall and 13-7 in the Lone Star Conference South Division while Tarleton State fell to 31-14 and 11-9. The sweep broke the school record for most wins at home in a single season with 21 and most conference wins in a season with 13.

Aguilar allowed only a solo home run in the seventh while striking out 11 and improving her record to 17-7 in the first game.

In the nightcap, Seals pitched four innings of two-hit, no-run relief as the Javelinas scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth to complete a rally from a 5-1 deficit.

The Javelinas start the scoring in the opener with a run in the first on an RBI single by Megan Hall.

The Javelinas then exploded for five runs on three hits in the bottom of the second. Julia Canales, Natalie Jones, and Ma’lia Guerra started the inning with singles. Cassie Anderson advanced to first on a fielding error that sent Jones in for a 2-0 lead. Sally Lozano hits a sacrifice fly that allowed Ma’lia Guerra to score and sent Anderson to third base. Joanna Dorado walked, then stole second, before Quesha Torres hit a two-run double to center.

In the nightcap, Tarleton State scored five runs on seven hits in three innings against Aguilar to take a 5-1 lead.

After Tarleton State scored two in the first and one in the second, the Javelinas cut the lead to 3-1, capitalizing on two Tarleton errors and a pinch-hit single by Courtney Rigamonti.

Tarleton State answered right back in the third extending their lead, 5-1 on a Brook LaRue two-run homer.

But Seals came on to shut the door on the TexAnns, striking out three, walking just one and stranding a runner on third in the fifth and on second in the seventh.

The Javelinas hit three consecutive two-out doubles in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to one. Quesha Torres started the rally with a single up the middle. Julia Canales, Natalie Jones, and Ma’lia Guerra then hit consecutive doubles to cut the lead to 5-4.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Hogs tied the game scoring one run provoked by another Tarleton error. Cassie Anderson reached first on a bunt single and then advanced all the way home off a Lozano single, coupled with a fielding error by Tarleton.

The Javelinas then won the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Anderson led off with a single to left field, followed by a sacrifice bunt that sent her to second. She then moved to third on an error by the shortstop and scored on an error by the third baseman.

The Javelinas can clinch second place in the LSC South this weekend when they travel to Eastern New Mexico for a four-game series.
